Flat Paige Meets Dracula

Hello Flat Paige Fans,

Flat Paige visited Dracula's hometown of Sighisoara, Romania. It is pronounced See-Gee-Schwar-A.

Dracula's real name was Vlad Tepes. He was known as Vlad the Impaler because he defended Romania against the invading turks and he impaled them on his spear.

His father was part of an order of knights called the Dracul, which means "Dragon" in Romanian. Dracula means "Son of Dracul".

That's how they say hello in Venice, Italy, where Flat Paige just spent six days.

In Venice there are canals instead of streets, and boats instead of cars. Flat Paige stayed in a hotel that looked out over the water and she drank Italian coffee and ate Italian pizza.

Flat Paige loved Italy and would like to go back but she had to take the train back to Budapest, Hungary so she can continue her adventures.

Paige Goes Multicultural

Szia!

Today Paige went multicultural. She went to the local market, then to the old Orthodox Synagogue, then to the new Synagogue which is the largest in Europe, and then she finished off her day at the Serbian Orthodox Church.

Budapest has a huge Jewish quarter, and prior to WWII had the largest population of Jews of any European City. Because of this they have many large synagogues and a Jewish quarter of town.

On one street in the Jewish Quarter called Dob utca there is a lot of interesting graffiti, and we thought this picture would be funny.

We next went to the large Jewish Synagogue which is the largest synagogue in Europe. It is built in a Moorish style, with towers, gold filigree, and a courtyard. It is very hard to get good pictures without a wide angle lens because the building is so big, but we tried to take a few pics anyway.

The gate contains some beautiful star decorations so we took several pictures of her there.

Next we went to the Servian Orthodox Church. Their patron saint is St. George slaying the Dragon, and there is a big plaque of it at the entrance to the church, so here is Paige with St. George.

There were plaques commemorating the founding of the church so Jimmy took some pictures of Paige with the plaques.

Unfortunately you could not take pictures inside the church or we would have had some real beauties.

Flat Paige Visits the Father of the Roses

Today Flat Paige took a pilgrimage with Jimmy and Melinda to visit the tomb of a famous Turkish dervish, Gul Bab. When the Ottoman Turks invaded Turkey in the 1500's, Gul Baba was a great friend and teacher to the Turks, and his tomb is in Buda where he is much loved and much remembered.

Jimmy and I visited the Muslim pilgrimage site today, and we thought Flat Paige might like to go too.

Today Flat Paige went to the Castle.
